“No matter how glorious life is, death is a fact.”
“Walk, stand, sit and lie with death.
Look around you . . .
The bamboo thicket that you see
represents the tangle of the mind.
The only way to transcend death
is to look at the tangle dispassionately.
If you understand death,
you will understand energy,
and you will see how to use it
more effectively on the path.”
Bodhi Publishing is pleased to announce the publishing of a second edition of The Song of Awakening, A Guide to Liberation Through Marananussati ‘Mindfulness of Death’ so that Namgyal Rinpoche’s profound teachings may be available once again for the benefit of all beings.
Although more than four decades have passed since Namgyal Rinpoche first gave these discourses in Crete and the first edition of The Song of Awakening was published, his transmission of liberation from suffering remains as timeless and as refreshing a guide to that transformation as they were then. In a pithy, clear and engaging manner, he illumines the themes of liberation through the ancient practice of Mindfulness of Death, the practice of meditation in general, as well as the quintessential practice of Mahamudra, the supreme path of enlightenment beyond concept, imagination and projection.
The only changes to be found in this second edition of The Song of Awakening consist of a new Preface, an added Introduction, a revision of The Setting and an enlarged Glossary, including amendments to some definitions. Otherwise, the original text of Namgyal Rinpoche’s pristine transmission from the book’s first edition remains the same.
